It happened here:
Do you see the drop? its not too bad, but not something you want your not-quite-2-year-old to experience.
I had all the windows open this morning, to let in as much cool fresh air as possible before it warmed up. I was clipping Colette into her bouncy seat, when I saw Leah perched on the top of the couch, leaning against the window screen -no, bouncing against the window screen with her hands. I tried telling her to get down. I yelled at her to get down actually, it looked pretty dangerous. but since Leah has very selective hearing when it comes to telling her no, I jumped up to grab her when BOOM- out popped the window screen and out popped Leah. It was like in the movies, where you see the cliff crumble and the helpless child fall, - cut to the heroine's hand grab hold of the childs ankle just before they tumble to their death.... thats how it went. I caught her ankle as she was falling out the window. And there my sweet child dangled, crying, until I realized that I was loosing grip on her slippery little leg, So I quickly lowered her as far as I could and I had to drop my child to the ground. Yes, I dropped her, intentionally. And I cussed under my breath as I ran out the back door to pick her up off the ground. I don't often use foul language, but something in me burst out automatically (which I later repented for) I ran as fast as I could to scoop up my crying baby girl off the dirt. I took her inside and she quickly calmed down, much to my relief. She had dirt on her face which i cleaned off with a wet towel. Some scrapes were all she had to show for falling out the window. And as happy as can be!
What am I to do? Other than move the couch away from the window, and install furniture anchors for the dresser? She does not learn! She just gets back up and tries it again! She's fearless, which scares me to death! Luckily, no major injuries, but I'm pretty sure she will be the cause for our first trip to the ER for a broken bone or something like that.
